The 21st Meeting of the Council for Gender Equality
The 21st meeting of the Council for Gender Equality was held at the Prime Minister's Official Residence. At the meeting, Mr. Shinzo Abe, the Chief Cabinet Secretary and the Chair of the Council, submitted a report on "Modifying the Basic Plan for Gender Equality" to Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi. The report states that the "Basic Plan for Gender Equality (draft)" is largely in line with the intent of the "Basic Direction of the Measures on Promoting the Formation of a Gender-Equal Society," the report the Council submitted on July 25, 2005, and is valid. Upon receiving the report, Prime Minister Koizumi said, "Based on the findings of the report I would like a Cabinet decision to be made at an early date. I intend to strive to establish a gender-equal society in which men and women alike can fully exercise their capacities and have dreams and hopes."
